I am telling you what, I do not know what I EVER did before TpT! Not only do I make BETTER things for my classroom, I can find just about anything I need for either free or pretty cheap. I would so much rather buy a literacy center on TpT, then buy a make and take book for $25.00, get one or two years out of it, then  the games are destroyed. With the digital storage, if a piece gets lost or a game gets torn up...guess what?? You just print it again!

My big project now since I just moved, is that I am going through all of my literacy centers. Any of them that are missing pieces, or old, or just ineffective, I am trashing. I need to make sure all of my stuff is complete and the BEST.


So that's why I am going this post, because I am trying to find THE BEST products in TpT. I have added somethings to my cart, and wanted to share with you a few of the best sellers from my Top Teacher friends :)

For the Love of Chevron!!!

So I don't know about ya'll but at my former school we had to have EVERYTHING labeled! I always just hand wrote my labels on sentence strips. Now don't get me wrong..it worked.....but then I was exposed to CHEVRON. After I purchased the FABULOUS Cara Carroll's Chevron-Classroom-Decor-Bundle ...I was HOOKED!!

After I printed everything out from her file and laminated it...I pulled out my old labels. They just didn't match up well. Cara Carroll's packet includes word wall stuff, so I left that out. I just needed things like Filing Cabinets, Book Shelves, Library, Tables, Supplies,Directions, ETC.  So I got busy. My friend also requested that I make this, so I went ahead and did it...

Hello everyone!  I'm excited to be a guest blogger for Ashley today!  This is actually my first time writing for someone else, so I'm glad to help out as she and her family move across the country.

I'm an Ashley too and I am the The School Supply Addict.  Maybe you've seen my polks dots around....

I started the blog a little over a year ago after realizing there were so many great teaching blogs, sites, and resources... and my 'bookmark' list was becoming out of control.  Big time.  I decided to mix a blog with static pages.  I have over 100 different pages with tons of resources that I've found and love.  I'm pretty picky when it comes to products that I buy/download, so I only put my favorites up.  :)  You should definitely come by and check it out sometime!

Crusade For Safety

I know this blog is about teaching :) So I know I am taking a leap of faith here by sharing something with you.

Today is the 13th anniversary of a day that my world changed forever. I was involved a fatal car accident as a teenager. My childhood "sweetheart" ,Jimmy, passed away in this accident. The top of the car caved in on me severely damaging my face. In our car (shown below), there were four passengers. The driver (Jimmy) died instantly. My brother walked away with a few cuts and bruises, but memories that would last a lifetime. Our other friend, was more severely injured. He broke his legs and his arm. It was a very difficult time for all of us. God sure put is through it,though, to help others.

As I've grown older, I often think about the experiences I have been blessed to experience, and it saddens me that my friend, Jimmy, was unable to  experience the same things. His life ended way too soon. He was a great person who would have went very far in his life. He dreamed of attending Florida State University and was a die hard 'Noles Fan!

After this accident, I was involved in several cosmetic facial surgeries to repair the damage. It often bothered me. Now, it's just  apart of who I am.  And I am okay with that. Our accident, was just a result of inexperience, no texting, alcohol or anything like that. 

I found out afterwards, years actually, that my grandfather had a campaign called "Crusade for Safety". He worked with the local police department to reward drivers who were caught driving carefully. Local companies donated products or services to people who were caught driving carefully. My grandfather passed away when I was just a small child, so for me, this was huge. I felt so close to someone that I have no memories of.

So I wanted to take all of these things, and create a virtual "Crusade For Safety". By that I just mean, when you get into your car, think about the choices you make. If you are a driver who texts and drive, I encourage you to read about Alex Brown. Any distraction is a danger to not only yourself, but to other drivers on the road. Wearing a seat belt SAVED my life.  Remember these things, life is too short and "death doesn't play favorites". Turn the radio down, stop answering the phone, and just drive. If you have teenagers, I encourage you to talk to them, even if you already have, AGAIN. Make a passenger limit rule, a cell phone rule, a TEXTING rule....anything you think that can keep your child SAFE. Young drivers are so inexperienced, combined with these other things, it's a dangerous situation. Be sure you drive with them often, even after they receive their full license. Jimmy had just turned 16, three weeks prior.

Take this image, place it on your blog, profile,FB page, twitter, pinterest board, whatever, as a reminder that you are going to make an effort to be a better driver and talk to your kids about the same thing. Make this week your "Crusade For Safety". Print this image,display it on your wall, especially if you teach high school!!!!

 I am so fortunate that god spared me that day, he knew I had work to do, he knew I would share HIS message.  God is the reason that I am the person I am today, I am forever grateful for his love.

From The Corner Guest Post

Howdy from Barbara at The Corner on Character. I'm so excited to be visiting The Teacher's Treasure Chest today while Ashley's away. I've tried to put myself in her shoes and figure out what it's like to be a Navy Wife, but having never experienced what she must go through, I'm having a tough time. Nevertheless, I have incredible empathy and gratitude for our military heroes, and that includes the extended families, husbands and/or wives, and children who serve right alongside of them. 

Do you know about the book Sometimes We Were Brave by Pat Brisson? Jerome, the cutie patootie on the front cover, describes what it's like when his Navy mom is away on active duty, leaving him and his dog Duffy behind: Sometimes they have bad days, sometimes they get surprises, sometimes they have accidents, sometimes they get treats, sometimes they are afraid. Real talk! Read this book aloud to elevate empathy. Find out who has experience with the military. Maybe their grandpa, uncle, dad -- or mom? -- has been deployed. Where did they serve? And what was that experience like? Were they able to be in touch with their loved one while he/she was away? How?

We work hard to help our students understand (as best we can) what it's like to serve to keep us safe and free. Last year, we supported our troops three times; once through Operation Gratitude when we sent 340 pounds of our Halloween Candy overseas, the second time at Thanksgiving when we sent Santas for Our Soldiers, and then, in May, when we did a Pamper Our Troops collection. We are told time and time again that, while they love getting our boxes filled with treats, what our soldiers and sailors like best are the cards, letters, and drawings that we send them. 

Looking for a rewarding service-learning project this year? Research who the military personnel in your school family are. Turn it into a geography lesson and find the spots on the map where they're located. Figure out the distance between your school and where they are, then set a goal to run that many miles during recess or p.e. in their honor. Study the climate so you can do a compare and contrast to what your region experiences. What might some of the challenges be? For example, we've been told that the dessert sands can present a problem. Have them speculate why. See if they can brainstorm things that they could send that would help make the soldiers' lives easier. Find out what they're eating while they're away. Ask your students how long they would be willing to go without eating their favorite foods.

Then write on! Your students' precious pictures and their wonderful words will be the sweetest surprise and the greatest gift!

If you do send some basic-need items, you can stuff them into a large flat-rate box for $13.50; our Rotary helps defray the cost of postage each year. Don't forget that you'll have to complete a customs form, so you can get some parent volunteers to help you get that done ahead of time. It takes a little planning and preparation, but it's totally worth it to say thanks to our servicemen and women and give back just a wee bit.
