Incorporating Reading Into The Content Areas

Hey friends! I hope that you are finding yourself well rested :) Probably not likely, considering it's the beginning of the school year!! I hope that you all are finding some down time and are not too stressed!!

One way to help you de-stress, is to go download this Free-Parent-Communication-Binder-Forms-Slate-Gray-!!

One of the hardest things as teacher is to teach ALL the subjects in a short time frame. With all of the things that can sometimes be thrown at us, sometimes it's hard to fit in Science and Social Studies. Now, don't get me wrong Science should be taught using hands on and engaging activities! However, we can also incorporate our science lessons to into our reading and have a successful day! It's a balance, students still need the ever so important vocabulary, why not use Science or Social Studies vocabulary during our reading instruction??

One way to do this is by using Vocabulary Cards during your reading stations or center work. The pictures show different Science Vocabulary Cards that I created and use during my station or center time.

You can use these cards in so many ways! You can print multiple sets and have students play "Memory". My students love to play a version of "around the world" with them! What we do is have one student read the definition, then they go around in the circle until someone can correctly identify the vocabulary card.

Or you can secure them on a binder ring and use as a reference, or  use them during read to a buddy time.

I also created this science reader and placed it in my library. Along with Reading A-Z Books, I place these in a basket during "Read to Self" time. Two to Three days a week, during "Read To Self", we are reading in the content area. The other days I let the students chose a book that fits their personality and reading style. This helps with our content area vocabulary and knowledge base. It ties the subjects together and the students are not only practicing their reading skills, but they are also gaining valuable information from other content areas. Again, this is NOT the ONLY way I teach the content areas, just extra steps I take to ensure my students are receiving a balanced instructional plan.
I also use printable read aloud to introduce each standard of learning. Once I've exposed them to the topic, the book goes into our library so they can explore it on their own!

All of these activities came from my Science-Center-and-Vocabulary-Resource-Packet- Which contains topics & centers from Seasons, Earth Resources, Recycling, Sound, Parts of a Plant, Magnets and tons of Vocabulary Cards!!

Linking up with Love

post signature Hey y'all! I'm linking up with my sweet friend Tessa, from Tales Outside The Classroom!
She's hosting this linky party so I just HAD to join in!

*People* I'm in LOVE with!

Of course-- My husband! My husband is my rock! I just love him to death. He's loving, caring, funny and best of all, the best husband and father I could have ever wished for!

Yes, that is a TEXAS Flag vest...can we say PROUD TEXAN???? ;)

My kiddos are so amazing! I love them so much! They are so energetic and keep me going ALL the time! Life never stops with boys in the house!!!

*Products* That I Love!

Humm--that one is EASY!
I love this water bottle that I got as a Christmas gift! I use it EVERYDAY!!

Of course-- Y'all know how much I love my country music! I found this gem in my CD collection the other day--I've been blaring it in the radio EVERY since!! haha! Who can resist KING GEORGE?!?!

Here is my latest freebie FREE-Addition-Math-Center That I just uploaded to TpT!

I use it as a math center when my students are finished with their work. I simply printed on card stock, laminated, and secured with binder rings. Then, I store in a ziploc bag with dry erase markers and dice! My kiddos love this!

My I Can Make Words  is getting great feedback from teachers of various grades! I love that you can differentiate it so easily! This packet includes 10 printables for making words. Students cut letters out and arrange them together to make words.

*Places* I'm in LOVE WITH!

I'm  so totally in love with the...GYM! I know it sounds crazy, but every since I started my fitness journey, I have just really enjoyed getting the stress out with exercise! My favorite exercise has to be squats! I love them! More than that, I LOVE the results from killing it with squats!!!!

I am also really enjoying the dead lift--but don't tell my trainer! Haha! I might whine a tad when we have to do them! But all and all, exercise in general really excites me! My husband just started working out this week..He's went like three times and I've already had to run him outta the vitamin stores! I'm like baby steps hun, baby steps ;) He would buy every protein supplement if I would allow it! I'm like let's see how long it *last* before you go spend a bunch of money on something---does this sound familiar to anyone else ;)
I just can't wait to get to the place where I can really just start maintaining my weight and not having to diet as serious. That part, is NOT fun!

Thanks Again Tessa for hosting this great linky party!

Till Next Time!

Guest Post from Ashley @The School Supply Addict

Hello everyone!  I'm excited to be a guest blogger for Ashley today!  This is actually my first time writing for someone else, so I'm glad to help out as she and her family move across the country.

I'm an Ashley too and I am the The School Supply Addict.  Maybe you've seen my polks dots around....

I started the blog a little over a year ago after realizing there were so many great teaching blogs, sites, and resources... and my 'bookmark' list was becoming out of control.  Big time.  I decided to mix a blog with static pages.  I have over 100 different pages with tons of resources that I've found and love.  I'm pretty picky when it comes to products that I buy/download, so I only put my favorites up.  :)  You should definitely come by and check it out sometime!

Since Ashley is busy moving, I decided to just load you up your 'teacher treasure chest' with some freebies.  All of the items below are completely FREE in my TPT shop.

Across Curriculum, Multi-Age

Across Curriculum, Multi-Age

Cute welcome banners!

Words, numbers, and base 10 representations through 100.

I have, Who has Game

First Day Writing Prompts (PreK-5)

Personal & Commercial Use Graphics

These are just a few of my freebies I thought you might like!  Follow my TPT shop or website to more!

Thanks for hanging out with me today!  Ashley, we wish you a safe move and hope you get settled into your new home quickly.  :)

Thanks everybody!
