Word Family Fun

I know a lot of teachers, who are not teachers at home! I understand this when we work 10 hour days and then drive back and forth to little league, soccer practices or other after school activities. I get it. I remember. But summer time is a great time to work with our own little ones..and this year that's just what I did!

First off,  I have a little one starting Kindergarten this year (SO SAD!)
My oldest is starting second grade!! Can't believe how big they are!!

Here are a few things we worked on!!

I know I've talked a lot about CVC words this summer, but that's what we spent a lot of time on!!

CVC Word Activities:

CVC Word Tic Tac Toe! The kiddos LOVED this!!

You can check out this packet right here

I have tons of different center ideas in this packet! From ABC Order, Words Sorts, Tic Tac Toe! It's loads of fun!!!

Word Family Literacy Centers

For oldest one, we worked on Word Families a lot!

I made two "Word Family Binders". One has, word family charts in it that we would visit and talk about each word and it's meaning.

The other binder, has fill in the blank word family cards. They used a visa vie marker and made new words on them!

You could organize this binder in so many ways! You could put the matching word family chart and the fill in the blank cards together! I like to keep them separate so I can use the visual aides during my small group instruction.
All of these activities come from my Word-Family-Cards-Literacy-Centers

Word Family Fun and A FREEBIE!

Hey everyone! First off I love anything to do with FROGS!!!! I am kinda of obsessed with these little guys!!

I have a little word family fun for you today!! I am always trying to think of a new activity to put learning in the hands of my kiddos. This one was super fun!

You can get the template for FREE right HERE!!!!
We used -at and -an words! You can use any you would like. I would have cut out all of the templates prior to the lesson.
I cut on one set per table. Depending on your class or age group, you have a volunteer cut the pieces out for you. In the perfect world right ;) Students in the 1st and 2nd grade should be able to trace the template and cut them out.

We are also using this word family center packet! It's great for those "sponge" moments!

Check it out RIGHT here

Staple Centers Part 2

In my previous post, I talked about "Staple" Literacy Centers. These are centers that I can pull out throughout the year and use. I also use these centers in my "I'm Finished Bin". When a student is finished with their work, they can get a station to work at their seat quietly. I really love this idea, especially for math. I always a have a few that I have to really keep challenging them!

One of my FAVORITE "Staple" packets is from Anna Brantley's Fun-in-the-Sun-Math-and-Literacy-Center-Packet. I love this packet because it includes both Short and Long Vowels, Time AND Money, and the sentence scrambles are amazing! I love packets that include a variety of popular skills, because I can use them for so many things! She has TONS of great products, but this my favorite!

Another great one from the none other than Cara Carroll is her Ready-Set-Learn-Back-To-School-Math-Literacy-Activities packet! This one is great because it focuses on skills that are often assumed.  Sometimes teachers "skip" basic steps, and before you know it, students get to third grade and can't spell the word "twelve"! This packet is great for basic skills that sometimes we assume kids know, when in actuality they do not :) Go check it out..now :)

Another great "staple" packet is my Parts-of-Speech-Mini-Packet. This packet includes 4 literacy centers, 6 printables, and 6 mini anchor charts!

is great for those moments when you just have a few minutes here or there. "Sponge" Moments is what my principal calls them! I love these cards for that purpose. They are great on rings, and can be pulled out at any time!!

Be sure to head over and check em' out right HERE

Stay tuned this week, I am linking up with some of my  favorite bloggy friends for a great surprise!

Till Next Time :)
